Who was Constantin Brailoiu?
He was born on August 13, 1893 in Bucharest. An internationally recognized composer and ethnomusicologist who studied in Lausanne, Paris and then in Romania. He began to work as a composer and music critic by publishing piano pieces in Lausanne, but soon turned to folk music studies. In 1920, he and other composers founded the Romanian composers’ association where he served as general secretary of the organization between 1926 and 1943. In 1928, he began work on the creation of the Archives of Folklore, which soon became one of the most popular archives of that time of folk music.Also in the same year Constantin Brailoiu along with sociology professor Dimitrie Gusti and a group of sociologists visited different regions of Romania in order to realize the recordings of folk music.
