Today, February 17, in 1904 the world premiere of Giacomo Puccini’s ′′ Madama Butterfly ′′ was held. The event, which took place at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, did not produce the expected effect on the public. Puccini revised the sheet music, and four months later the work was presented again, this time successfully.
′′ It’s the finest work I’ve ever written “, said the composer. The Paris production version of 1906, with all the subsequent reviews, is what the public can listen to today.
