The magnificent Prague State Opera House

Here we have the magnificent Prague State Opera House. Take yourself back to its opening in 1888 and tune your ears to the lovely sounds. What do you hear? German. At that time, the Czech lands were part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, with a large German minority living in Prague. It wasn’t until post WWII that Prague Opera House would hear its first Czech performance — Bedřich Smetana’s Brandenburgers in Bohemia on September 4th, 1945.
