Tenor Juan Diego Flórez returns to London with Werther
The famous tenor Juan Diego Flórez begins his 19/20 season returning to London to perform some of Werther and Massenet’s work in a production by Benoît Jacquot of the Paris National Opera. Flórez will be accompanied by Isabel Leonard in the role of Charlotte, Jacques Imbrailo in the role of Albert, Heather Engebretson as Sophie and Alastair Miles as Le Bailli. Accompanying will be the Royal Opera House Orchestra, under the direction of Edward Gardner, recently appointed as the new head of the London Philharmonic. Functions will run from September 17 to October 5. On September 6, taking advantage of his presence in London for rehearsals for this show, Juan Diego Flórez will offer a master class series at the Royal Opera House. On the 19th, a public interview with the Peruvian tenor was also organized at Covent Garden. Coincident with the dates of the Werther opera show, London’s Royal Opera House will also stage Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”, with a cast led by Erwin Schrott and conductor Hartmut Haenchen.
