Technological innovation in the New Year Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic

Great news is coming for this new year: the traditional New Year concert of the Vienna Philharmonic will be held as usual on January 1, 2021 at 12.15, albeit in front of a hall without audience.

In the conditions of a completely unusual situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic in order not to deprive the orchestra of the reactions of the ORF spectators, the Austrian Radio and Television has thought of a special project that will connect all the spectators in the world. For the first time millions of spectators attending this concert in over 90 countries of the world will react directly to the performance of the artists.

As part of a collaboration with Grax’s Poet Audio company, which produces high-end sound systems, both parts of the concert will be able to be applauded live by thousands of spectators. To have the opportunity to express your applause for the musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic you can visit: www.mynewyearsconcert.com This Live voice contribution from the public is one more testament of appreciation for the artistic community, at a time when everything is at a stop all over the world. Once you are registered online you will be able to rate the musicians with Live Cheers via www.mynewyearsconcert.com, regardless of whether you are in front of a computer, a tablet or a smartphone. The applause will be distributed both in the Musikverein hall and on the ORF broadcast. The collective sound of slapping will be produced by a special software installed on 6 servers and can be heard in 20 boxes located in the Golden Hall.
