On the annual Nationwide Festival “Jorgjia Truja”

Several years ago, when I started working on my dissertation “Music Education in Albania in the first half of the 20th century, besides extensive research, I asked to meet Ms. Takuina Truja, daughter of artist Jorgjia Filçe Truja to trace facts, literature, music scores and pedagogical musical methods, which the artist herself returned from the studies had brought from Italy. Undoubtedly, I was privileged to keep in mind the materials with which the vocal pedagogy began in one of the most important institutes of the country, the “Nana Mbretneshë” Institute (1933-1944), and shortly thereafter, the girls of the Institute would become the main protagonists of public musical life in the capital. Ms. Filçe Truja, lyric singer, pedagogue, director, musicologist, and a rare woman, represents a complexity of professional and human values. It is in its honor that the annual Nationwide Jorgjia Truja Festival is held in Tirana, during April -Maj. The launch of the “Jorgjia Truja” Festival in April for hobbyist and professional singers coincides exactly with the month when its 16th day was announced as “World Voice Day”. The tradition that is held year after year strongly held by Mr. Takuina Truja as Project Director gathered 50 young amateur singers who competed and were praised by a professional jury composed by singer Eranda Libohova, Artistic Director of the Lyric Academy, Verona Italy, Paolo Fancincani, and was led by composer and Academician Prof. Dr. Vasil.S.Tole. On the 2nd to 4th of May, the second stage for the students of the Professional Music Schools and the students of the Faculty of Music will be held. The jury of the second stage consists of Prof. Suzana Frasheri, Prof. Shqipe Zani, professor at the University of Arts, soprano of international scenes Anna Pirozzi Italy and our composer Prof. Dr. Academician Vasil.S.Tole. Wishing further success for their students and their professional teachers, we hope that the Festival will outline the way forward by highlighting and stimulating young talents.
