The composer Admir Shkurtaj and the soprano Hersjana Matmuja to participate in Venezia 75
A classic movie of the silent cinema like (Der Golem – Wie er in die Welt kam, 1920) written and directed by Paul Wegener, is the film selected for the evening preceding the opening of the Venice Biennale. “Venezia 75” will be held in the magical city of Venice at Lido from 29 August to 8 September 2018 directed by Alberto Barbera and organized by the Biennial led by Paolo Baratta. The film will be screened on Tuesday, August 28, at the “Darsena” Hall in Lido. Golem will be projected into a new digital copy based on the original negative considered lost as a 4K restoration under the auspices of Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung in Wiesbaden (Germany) and Cinematheque Royale de Belgique (Cinematek) in Brussels . In this form he will be presented as a world premiere. This digital restoration is based on Bologna’s Rigid Image. Located in the 16th-century Prague, Golem shows the Jewish tale of a clay-made creature, rescued by the ritual of a rabbi. During the screening, the film will be accompanied by music penned the by Albanian composer Admir Shkurtaj. This work is penned and commissioned by the Venice Biennale to the Albanian composer Shkurtaj and will be live performed by “Mesimèr Ensemble”. Member of this ensemble is also the Albanian soprano Hersjana Matmuja. Along with Hersi in this ensemble is going to perform the composer Shkurtaj himself who will do the direction, the electronic part, will play accordion and piano. While we are looking forward to find out about the feeling of composer Shkurtaj about this work, our readers use to know Hersi longer. She represented Albania at the European Song Contest in Copenhagen in 2014. After completing her studies at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia, Rome, she has engaged in many musical projects. As a soprano Hersi has sung and invited in many productions. This is not the first collaboration between two Albanian musicians since she has debuted in contemporary music in collaboration with composer Shkurtaj commissioned by Venice Biennale and executed in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Hersi is the first international teacher to be invited by the Pyongang Conservatory in North Korea. She has debuted in Krakow, Lebanon, Amsterdam and Monaco, in Barhena, North Korea, Sarajevo, Croatia, Dubai and others. He has been invited to many Italian TV channels, from RAI to Vatican, but also to various countries of the world such as Malta, Montenegro, San Marino, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania etc.
