Facebook buys the rights to music videos

There has been some time that Fb has been negotiating with record labels to be able to provide a distribution service for music clips. According to sources cited by Bloomberg through this, Fb wants to increase the public’s appetite for the Watch section. FB representatives are negotiating with Universal Music Group, Sony Music and Warner Music Group in order to distribute music clips. Meanwhile the Zuckerberg giant has begun testing with clips in Thailand and India. The social networking giant had a deal with record labels allowing users to include famous pieces in the background of clips posted online.

But still FB had no right to distribute an official clip of a song. On Youtube the music clips are the most popular. Dozens of them have already surpassed 1 billion viewers. Imagine, for example, “Despacito” not finding it on Youtube but having it on FB. This would take Facebook Watch service to another level. In June 2018 IGTV also debuted on Instagram but it wasn’t that much of a success.
