17 days left to George Enescu International Festival
The 2019 edition of the George Enescu International Festival will kick off on August 31 and run until September 22. Bucharest’s concert halls will feature over 2,500 top-50 musicians from 50 nationalities who will host 84 concerts and recitals.
The first editions of this festival are organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is also responsible for their promotion.
In the diplomatic archives there is a very rich fund related to the activity and personality of prominent Romanian musician George Enescu (19 August 1881-4 May 1955). Also part of these archives are the organizing and promotion of the first editions of the Festival. The festival began in 1958 in honor of Romanian virtuoso composer and violinist George Enescu. The festival gained extraordinary international prestige in its first edition, but this would not have been possible without the major contribution that Romanian diplomacy has made.
The archival documentation reflects an indispensable resource for understanding the role of cultural diplomacy in an activity that has today become a national Romanian brand. All this is expected to be celebrated especially in the 2021 edition when it will be the jubilee edition.
