Aretha Franklin Pulitzer Award
On April 15, the Pulitzer Awards were announced. The special award was given to Aretha Franklin with this motivation: “for her nvaluable contribution to American music and culture for more than five decades.” Aretha Franklin died in 2018.
The Queen of soul music is the first woman to be honored with the “Pulitzer Prize” in that category so far: George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, or Bob Dylan.
The American legend singer Aretha Franklin was honored with a special award by Pulitzer for her entire career. After 50 years of contributing to the writing of the history of soul music and jazz and activism in defense of the African American population in America.
Other awards include the Presidential Medal of Liberty, the Kennedy Center Prize and the involvement in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
