Andre Rieu celebrates his 70th birthday
He is a very beloved musician. Andre Rieu was born in 1949 on October 1 in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Violinist and conductor but also composer Rieu comes from a family of musicians. His father was conductor of the Limburg Symphony Orchestra and the Laipzig Opera. Driven by his father, he began taking private violin lessons at the age of five. in 1967 he began studying violin at the Liege Conservatory, then pursuing studies at the Royal Brussels Conservatory. In 1977 Andre Rieu graduated and was awarded the Premier Prix.
1978 is the year that Rieu founded the Maastricht Salon Orchestra. In parallel he was a violinist at the Limburg Symphony Orchestra.
In 1987 he founded the Johann Strauss Orchestra, which initially consisted of 12 musicians. Meanwhile their number has grown to 43 and sometimes even 50. The first concert with this orchestra was held in 1988 for the New Year, and soon began with concerts in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and the German Federal Republic.
His album “From Holland with Love” came out in the Netherlands in 1994 while the album “Second Waltz” had such great success that it entered the Top 100 and stayed in the Top 10 for over a year.
In 1996 he was named “Modern King of the Waltz” while his albums titled “The Vienna I Love” and “In Concert” conquered the European music markets. In the same year he also receives a trophy at the World Music Award in Monte Carlo.
