Jorgjia Filçe Truja is one of the main factors of the cultural foundation of our music

The lyrical singer, pedagogue, director, musicologist, and a rare woman like Jorgjia Filçe Truja, represents a complexity of professional and extraordinary human values. She was so devoted to the profession becoming an initiator for the emancipation of new Albanian artists. Through the interpretation of masterpieces of opera her music would affect the cultivation of aesthetic taste and the social emancipation of the Albanian society. In the historical perspective, besides being a distinguished artist Jorgjia Filce Truja is among the artistic personalities who founded the history of music as part of Albanian professional art. I would like to reflect the valuable contribution of artist to the “Nana Mbretereshe’s Institute” artistic-pedagogic profile for the development of music education as an indispensable part of general education.

The “Nana Mbretereshe” Feminine Institute (October 2, 1933-1945) was founded by the Patriot Mirash Ivanaj, Minister of Education in the period.  It was divided into two profiles, normal and gymnasium. According to archival and documentary sources, it can be argued unequivocally that artistic education in general and music in particular was reflected as a third profile, with identifying value in the Albanian education system. The opening of a female high school of a full structure and wide program, besides a major event for the education of Albanian women, was also a concrete expression of the educational reforms. This daring initiative of the Ministry for the time would not be realized without the help of the artists. She was among the first of those who accepted the challenge in the design of didactic musical programs on contemporary European sound scientific criteria and bases. Regarding teaching and music subjects at the Nana Mbretereshe Institute can only be judged to the extent permitted by the documents stored in the archive, in particular in the autobiographical narrative of the artist Filçe Truja, which becomes the main guide for reflection of the original used methods just from it.We regret that in the 50 years of teaching this concrete contribution did not continue the path, turning the discipline of music education simply as an entertaining process. Perhaps the ideals of Mrs. Truja, for laying the foundations of a professional music education, continued at the opening of the first high school musical Jordan Misja. The content and performance of the Nana Mbretëreshë’s Music Institute’s music education program was reflected directly in the concert activity. Thus, working out of the curriculum, Jorgjia Filçe established the school choir with students from all classes. She started creating a precious tradition in terms of Albanian coral interpretation. They sang patriotic songs, choral songs from various operas, all in Albanian. The song for these girls became a phenomenon by Jorgjia, who started out in classrooms, continued through the basements and dormitories, and ended up on stage, where they cultivated turning into massive spectacles that rocked the spirit of the society.
