“I want more Albania” written by Thoma Avrami

The patriotic song began in the late nineteenth century and became very popular in the 20th century as a new type of civic singing. One of these songs, one of the most beautiful is the song “Dua më shumë Shqipërinë”. In fact, his original title is “Mëngjeset e majit” and in its original version was titled “Dëshërim për mëmëdhenë”. It was written in 1901 by Thoma Avrami, (Tole Adhami), a prominent singer of the band “Lira”, one of the teachers of the first Albanian school, “Mësonjtorja” of Korça, and a journalist who wrote in various magazines, in Albania and in the ‘abroad. According to scholars, the text is found in one of the patriotic periodicals of the early 20th century for the Albanians of Romania and Bulgaria. The song was sung for the first time and recorded in 1923 by Spiridon Ilo, USA. “May Mornings”, before it became known throughout Albania, was sung by various Korça artists and the “Lira” choir.
