Flaka Goranci – Our Carmen

Years ago, I was lucky to teach a class of students whose vitality and the sparkling  I admired most. Among them, there was a student from Kosovo. Quiet, attentive when talking with her big smart eyes. I quickly found out about her calm and wisdom, but gradually I heard she had a beautiful voice. She was called Flaka Goranci.

After some time I watched her at the Opera of Tirana playing Rozina in the opera “Berber of Seville” of Rosini and then Kerubin in the opera “Le nozze di Figaro” of Mozart. Later, she returned to Pristina, but soon i found out that she moved to Israel to pursue a master’s degree at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv with Prof. Tamar Rachum.

And to make known her career I should add that she was later moved in Vienna to perform several roles like Dorabeles from Opera “Cosi fan tutte” by Mozart, Dido’s role by Henry Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” I came from Donizetti’s “Gemma di Vergy”, and some other first and very important roles.

Meanwhile, I learned that she had acquired a scholarship from the Hildegard Zadek Stiftung Foundation in Germany. She used to perform dozens of concerts in Europe and America, collaborating with many well-known conductors and important theaters. She used to studied with distinguished professors like Dan Ettinger, Vito Maria Brunetti, Prof. Charles Spencer, Prof. Walther Moore and others.

A year ago she performed the role of Ollga from the opera “Evgjeni Onjugin” of Tchaikovsky in Belgium at the “Alden Biesen Summerfestival” and recently the role that I discovered at the first sight many years ago when she was staying at the last table in the classroom: The Bize’s Carmen at the Opera Theater in Magdeburg, Germany.I ask her to contact and answered me as a the mature artist do:

“For every mezzosoprano, Karmen’s role is like a dream. For sure, it was my dream too. I’m glad that at the right time, i mean when the voice has the right maturity of interpretation I take this role on multi-dimensional demands.I have been working for two weeks with rehearsals. On June 1 will be the premiere, followed by 5 other performances during June.Karmen’s role does not only require a half-soprano color and a mature voice, but it also requires a highly stage performance where there is flamenco dance “castanets” playing and strong emotions. The rehearsals are long; it is performed with the stage and from music point of view. In this production there is an international cast of artists, choir and orchestra of this theater has many successful premieres on the German and international area. This production is also a premiere for this season.

This is the flight diagram of students. First year they enter the University wise and gentle and then you see that they are flying into the sky where they turn into stars. In that class there were not a few ones…
